Georgia Tech's Intern Lodging Program



Application and Deadlines

1. When is my application due?

Deadline for applications is May 1, 2008.

2. Where do I send my license agreement?

3. Is there a Pre-Payment?

Yes. The required Pre-Payment of $350.00 is due with the signed license agreement.

4. When are my fees due?

Pre-Payment is due with the signed license agreement. The remainder of rent is due after receiving an email from Conference Services confirming your lodging assignment. The amount will be stated in the email.

5. How do I cancel my contract?

Refunds, excluding Pre-Payment, will be made when GT Conference Services is notified in writing (internhousing@housing.gatech.edu) of cancellation, at least 24 hours in advance of check-in.

6. I'm a company looking to sponsor several interns. Can I reserve rooms for my interns?

Yes. If you are a company sponsoring numerous interns, a separate application needs to be completed for each intern. Unless otherwise directed, one license agreement will be written to include all interns sponsored by your company and emailed to your company representative.

Details and Requirements

1. What are the age requirements for participating in the Intern Lodging program?

Interns must be 18 years, or older upon signing the license agreement.

2. What are acceptable forms to prove my age?

Copies of your driver's license, birth certificate, or passport are all acceptable ways to prove your age.

3. Do I have to have proof of internship?

Yes. Proof of internship should be supplied in the form of a signed letter from your company's Human Resources Department, or your direct supervisor.

4. What if I haven't secured my internship yet?

You will need to have a confirmed internship with proof before a license agreement with Georgia Tech will be official.

5. How much does the program cost?

Lodging is $25.00/night, plus an 8% sales tax.

Dates, Extensions, Hours

1. For what dates do you provide Intern Lodging?

Sunday, May 18 through Sunday, July 27, 2008

2. How long can I stay?

Extended stays beyond your contracted dates are provided on an "As Available" basis and charged at $55.00/night.Extensions can not be granted beyond Sunday, July 27, 2008. You must check out by 7pm July 27, 2008.

3. Where do I check-in?

4. What are the hours for check-in and check-out?

The Conference Services staff is available for check-in from 7am-12am, 7 days/week. You may check-in any time between 7am-12am on your scheduled arrival date. You MUST check-out between 7am-7pm on your scheduled check-out date.

5. What should I do if I have to arrive after hours?

First, make every effort to call the Conference Services' main number (404-894-2469) to let someone know your plans. Next, upon arriving after hours, call the emergency duty phone (404-428-6752) and a staff member will check you in.

6. What are your office hours?

Academic Year: 8am-5pm, M-F; Summer Conference Season: 7am-12am, 7 days/week; Emergency Duty: 12am-7am, 7 days/week

Lodging

1. Do I have to have a roommate?

Bedrooms are single occupancy and "all roommates" are sharing an apartment, NOT a bedroom. The Office of Conference Services will make official room assignments. You may, or may not have a roommate depending on availability of space within the residence hall.

2. Can I live with people I'm interning with?

Yes. Both you AND your roommate MUST request each other on your applications. Only roommate requests of the same gender will be honored.

3. When will I find out my roommate information?

Every effort is made to fulfill roommate requests, but you will not find out exactly who your roommate is until the day you check-in.

4. What will my apartment look like?

Each single-occupancy bedroom is fully furnished with a bed (extra-long mattress), desk, desk chair, spacious wardrobe and dresser. All apartments are fully air-conditioned with a large living-room space, semi-private bath and kitchen, complete with full-size refrigerator, microwave, and stove.

5. What should I bring with me? What can't I have?

6. Will I have a private bathroom?

Bathrooms are semi-private. There is a ratio of 1 bathroom to every 2 people.

7. Will housekeeping clean my room and provide toilet paper?

No. You must provide your own toilet paper, and are responsible for the cleanliness of your apartment, bathroom, and bedroom. Trash receptacles are located near the residence halls for your convenience.

8. Are there laundry facilities in the building?

There is not a laundry facility in 6th St. Apartments, but there is one in Maulding Hall directly adjacent to 6th St. Your 6th St. key will provide you access.

9. How do I use the laundry facilities?

You will purchase a reloadable BuzzCard for $20.00, after checking in, and will be able to place money on the card and use it to pay for doing laundry.

10. Are your facilities handicap accessible?

Yes. There is a section on the application where you can make us aware of any special needs.

11. Are there phone jacks in the apartments? Can I make long distance calls?

Yes, there are phone jacks in the apartments. You need to bring your own phone and can make local calls free of charge. You need to use a phone card for long distance.

12. Are internet connections available in the apartments?

Yes. There are data ports you can use to plug in and wireless internet is included in your rent. You will need to bring your own CAT-5 Ethernet cord for wired service.

Other Campus Facilities and Services

1. What's a BuzzCard?

A BuzzCard is an official Georgia Tech photo identification. It is not only used as I.D., but can be used in vending machines, at local restaurants and for laundry service. Refer to www.buzzcard.gatech.edu for more information.

2. Can I purchase a meal plan for the campus dining hall?

No, but all-u-can-eat meals can be purchased, with cash, at the dining hall. There is also a food court in the Student Center and many nearby, off-campus locations that deliver.

3. Is there parking available near the residence halls?

Yes.

4. How much are parking passes?

Parking passes are $5.00/day; $30/week; $50/month.

5. Does Georgia Tech have buses on campus? Do they go off campus?

Yes, Georgia Tech has bus and trolley service. Service is slightly more limited during the summer, but still provides routes around campus and nearby locations such as the Midtown MARTA Station and Publix grocery store.

Around Atlanta

1. Are there dining or shopping options within walking distance of Georgia Tech?

Yes, when you arrive, you will be provided with a Campus and Atlanta map that will guide you to options like Technology Square, Rocky Mountain Pizza, McDonald's, Burger King, etc.

2. What entertainment is near Georgia Tech?

3. Atlanta is a pretty big city-is it safe? What does Georgia Tech do to keep campus safer?

As in all major cities, we encourage you to keep your doors locked and be safe when walking alone around campus and Atlanta. However, we provide a night-time emergency duty number, as well as the on-campus GT Police department to help increase safety options.

What You Need To Know Once On Campus

1. What do I do if I lose my key, is there a charge for a lost key?

If you lose your key stop into the Conference Services Office between 7am-12am, 7 days/week and your key will be replaced. If you lose your key between 12am-7am call the emergency duty phone number, posted on your residence hall door, and a staff member will assist. The charge for a lost key is $50.00/key.

2. What do I do if there's something wrong with my room-something breaks, leaky toilet, light bulb burns out, etc?

When you arrive, you will be provided directions on how to complete an online maintenance request form. This will allow you to request maintenance assistance and track the requests' progress. If it's an emergency, call the Conference Services main office, or duty phone number.

3. What do I do if I get locked out?

Call the Conference Services office during main hours or the duty phone after hours. The appropriate numbers and times to use them will be posted in your residence hall.

4. What do I do in an emergency?

In case of an emergency, call Georgia Tech Police (404-894-2500). DO NOT call 911 first. GTPD will dispatch an ambulance if needed.
